Outer Banks Spa & Wellness Getaway
Sometimes a getaway is less about filling every hour and more about creating space to feel restored. Mornings that begin with movement. An afternoon at the spa. A walk beside the water with nowhere else to be.
Set between the Atlantic Ocean and Currituck Sound, The Sanderling Resort offers a natural setting for an Outer Banks getaway centered around rest, movement and time outside. Whether you are looking for a dedicated Outer Banks retreat or simply want to weave a few restorative experiences into your stay, wellness here can take whatever shape feels right for you.

Fall Release: A Women’s Retreat in the Outer Banks
For those looking for a more immersive wellness experience, Fall Release: A Return Inward brings several days of intentional practice, rest and connection to the coast.
Taking place October 22 to 25, the three-night women’s retreat brings together yoga, somatic movement, breathwork, sound experiences, journaling and generous time for nature and reflection. Each offering is optional, allowing guests to move through the experience at their own pace. Accommodations, organized meals and daily wellness programming are included.
The current retreat is sold out, but cancellations may become available.
Tides and Tranquility: A Curated Outer Banks Getaway
You do not need a scheduled retreat to make wellness the focus of your stay.
Tides and Tranquility offers a more flexible way to reset, pairing your stay with $100 in spa credit per night and a daily guided yoga session. Guests also have access to the fitness center and spa facilities, including the eucalyptus steam room and indoor relaxation pool.
It is an easy way to build restoration into an OBX getaway, while still leaving the rest of the day open for the beach, pool, dining or simply doing very little at all.
Build Your Own Wellness Getaway at The Sanderling
Wellness is personal. For one guest, it might mean an early yoga session and an afternoon massage. For another, it is a bicycle ride through Duck, lunch by the shore and a quiet hour beside the pool.
Rather than following a set itinerary, you can choose the experiences that help you slow down, move more or simply reconnect with the simple joys of the coast.

Slow Down at The Spa at The Sanderling
Overlooking Currituck Sound, The Spa at The Sanderling brings the landscape into the experience. Ten treatment rooms provide a peaceful setting for coastal and seasonally inspired massage, body and facial therapies.
Choose a relaxation or couples massage, ease tired muscles with deeper therapeutic treatments, or opt for one of the spa’s signature body and facial experiences. Some treatments incorporate ingredients and inspiration drawn from the Outer Banks itself.
For an Outer Banks spa getaway, it is easy to make a treatment the centerpiece of the day, then leave plenty of space around it to enjoy the resort at a slower pace.
Wellness Activities at The Sanderling Resort
Not every restorative moment happens inside the spa. Across the resort, wellness can mean movement at sunrise, time on the water or simply finding a quieter way to experience the Outer Banks.
Begin the Day With Morning Wellness
Start the morning on the Observation Deck overlooking the ocean with guided movement designed to energize and reset.
Sessions depend on the season and typically begin at 7:30 AM, with yoga on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Core Strength on Tuesday and Total Body Strength on Thursday. Classes are included in the resort fee, while non-resort guests can currently join for $20.

Slow Down With a Sanderling Seaside Picnic
Sometimes wellness looks as simple as sitting by the ocean with good food and nowhere else you need to be.
The Sanderling Seaside Picnic pairs a chef-prepared picnic with the sound of the waves and an open stretch of shoreline. Options include artisanal sandwiches, fruit and house-made treats, with the experience suited to couples, families or a peaceful solo afternoon.
Explore Duck by Bicycle
For gentle movement beyond the resort, bicycles are available to resort guests on a first-come, first-served basis from the front desk.
Pedal around the property or continue into the town of Duck, letting the day unfold at your own pace.

Take the Scenic Route With a Vineyard Voyage
For a slower kind of adventure, the Sanctuary Vineyard Voyage begins with a boat ride from Duck across Currituck Sound, passing marshland and Dews Island before continuing to Sanctuary Vineyards for a tour and tasting.
It is a chance to step beyond the resort while still keeping the relaxed rhythm of your getaway.
Get Out on the Water
If being active is how you reset, seasonal water sport rentals offer another way to experience the coast.
Kitty Hawk Kites offers kayak, SUP, surf, skim and boogie board rentals from The Sanderling Resort Activity Kiosk on a seasonal basis.
Find Your Own Pace Around the Resort
A restorative stay does not need to follow a schedule. Between spa appointments and activities, there are plenty of places to simply settle in and enjoy the surroundings.
- Adults-only pool: Swim a few laps in the 75-foot pool or settle beside the outdoor whirlpool spa for a quieter afternoon.
- Family pool: A zero-entry pool and spa offer another place to spend an easy day by the water.
- Fitness center: Keep up your usual routine in the fitness center located in the North Inn.
- Beachfront setting: Walk the shoreline, find a place in the sand or simply take in the sea air.

Stay Somewhere Designed for Slowing Down
Where you stay can be part of the reset too.
Accommodations at The Sanderling place you close to the spa, beach, pools and wellness experiences while giving you somewhere comfortable to retreat between them.
Guestrooms offer an easy coastal base, while luxury suites provide additional space and private balconies with panoramic views for mornings and evenings spent at your own pace.
For OBX weekend getaways or longer coastal escapes, staying on property means less time moving between plans and more time enjoying the reason you came.
Plan Your Outer Banks Spa Getaway
Your version of wellness might be three days devoted to an Outer Banks retreat, a stay built around yoga and spa treatments, or simply a few quieter moments woven into an OBX beach getaway.
At The Sanderling, the coast sets the pace. Choose what restores you, leave room for the unexpected and stay a few more days if you need them.
